History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during 1919. The company was originally established by Anton Raky, an engineer. Raky was a pioneer in modern drilling and oil drilling technology. The initial company name was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid during the year 1937, when the Salzgitter Group purchased a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling machinery. During 1986, the company bought the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into a global brand name in the following years.
