Propane cylinders are designed to take up really little space and can be kept in an outdoor facility or inside the storage area. It does take some time to switch out a propane cylinder, though, it still does needs operator training in order to be conducted safely and also require knowledge of safety standards such as the OSHA or Occupational Health and Safety Administration.
Compared to the electric lift truck, IC forklifts are faster and easier to refuel. However, the internal combustion engine does produce polluting emissions and are really noisy.
NARROW-AISLE FORKLIFTS
The ITA's Class 2 trucks include a huge variety of electric forklifts and these are specifically made to be utilized in narrow aisles. The standard storage aisles are 12 feet wide, and this easily enables a counterbalanced forklift to turn in the aisle and put a load away. Typically, the very narrow aisles are roughly 5.5 to 6 feet wide, while narrow aisles are 8 feet wide. These narrow aisles require specialized forklifts which are capable of putting away loads that are small enough to turn on a tight radius or without any turning at all.
Reach trucks, turret trucks and order pickers are 3 of the most common narrow-aisle lift trucks. The differences amongst these forklifts are discussed below.
Narrow-Aisle Reach Trucks
The traditional reach truck is the original narrow-aisle lift truck and these machines do not need a counterweight. They are also small enough to turn around in narrow aisles. Instead, stability is provided by the outrigger arms that extend in front of the lift trucks. Then again, depending on the storage configuration, these outrigger arms could prevent the trucks from getting close enough to the storage rack to retrieve and deposit cargo. To be able to overcome this situation, a pantograph was designed. The pantograph is a reach truck which is designed with a telescoping mechanism. This enables forks to concisely and easily reach into storage areas.
The ideal environment for a narrow-aisle forklift is a place which is clean, has good lighting, and has well-maintained floors, good traffic flow, as well as a sufficient turning aisle.
